Allow Data URI
A downloadable extension
This small extension introduces support for Data URI scheme to GameMaker HTML5 target, allowing you to use "data:[;base64]," format instead of normal URLs in most spots, though most handy for loading externally generated sprites.
Setup: Import the extension. That's it. You can now use Data URIs.
All thanks to some incredibly strange code that patches some built-in function 3 calls deep. Most people wouldn't do that to themselves.

I checked and as of Runtime v2024.11.0.227 GameMaker accepts Data URIs on its own, so the extension is no longer needed.
Is there any alternative for the current version of GameMaker?
Have you tried it? And have you tried using a data URL without an extension? It looks fixed in the runtime source.
